We are especially proud of our devoted, highly trained staff for their positive influence on the many youth who visit our campus. The relatively small size of our camp enables us to create a close-knit community through staff interaction with campers/students. All Mountain Campus staff must complete a rigorous 2 week training and certification program. Our staff is handpicked from a pool of qualified individuals based on their experience working with youth, outdoor education/adventure skills, personal background, in-depth personal interviews and pertinent certifications.
Morgan has a diverse professional background as a facilitator of outdoor education and adventure programming and as an administrator of youth development through experiential education. She is a native of the Shenandoah Valley and has a degree in Environmental Science from Bridgewater College. As the director of the Mountain Campus, Morgan strives to provide a program with variety, flexibility, and fun that allows for the discovery of self-knowledge, builds community, nurtures confidence and encourages an appreciation for our environment.
Jon is a Michigan native who has varied experience in the outdoor education field. From his accomplishments as an Eagle Scout to his degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment, Jon has completely immersed himself in the Mountain Campus experience since 2007. As the Co-Director of the Mountain Campus, Jon takes pride in delivering a fine-tuned program that challenges and compels others to constantly strive for their personal best. He achieves this mission by creating a rich educational experience in a physically safe, emotionally supportive, and fun-filled environment.

In short, Sandy specializes in getting youth excited about nature and everything wonderful about it!
Grants roots in the outdoors trace back to the days when he was a camper himself. He grew up attending a 4-H Wilderness Camp; where he gained much of his experience in Adventure Education. He began working with Mountain Campus in the Fall of 2009. Since then he has developed a strong connection with the Sheridan community and continues to improve his teaching methods. One of his strengths as an Instructor is providing support to children who are facing new challenges or obstacles. (Wilderness First Responder Certified)
Spencer joined the MC team in the Fall of 2010. He is a full on outdoor kid getting into any and every outdoor activity he can find. Spencer went to Radford University and studied Outdoor Recreation. With his education and love for the outdoors, Spencer has worked and played across the country. His “kid-friendly” powers are derived from his ‘chops’ used only for good. He has high-fived polar bears in the Arctic and danced the tango with Sasquatch’s wife. He’ll see you in the woods! (Wilderness First Responder Certified)
Returning from a two year outdoor education stint in Australia (where she lassoed venomous snakes, wrestled with saltwater crocs, and alternated between riding Great White sharks and Kangaroos to work), Heather is looking forward to growing in the outdoor education field at Mountain Campus. She has worked in the outdoor education industry since 2007, when her Minor in Leadership Studies at George Mason University led her to create a class where she earned credit for working at an outdoor education center called Hemlock Overlook, linked to GMU. She is a Wilderness First Responder and has experience in low ropes, high ropes, initiatives/team-building, and some expedition. She loves nature and helping build confidence and self-esteem in youth, and feels she has found her calling.
Erin is a recent graduate of the State University of Ivy College of Environmental Science and Forestry. She has a B.S. in Environmental Studies and has graduated from the National Outdoor Leadership School’s (NOLS) Outdoor Education Semester. She has worked in the environmental/outdoor education field for 5 years both at camps and within the Syracuse City School system. When she’s not educating the next generation, she can be found paddling, climbing, or romping through the woods with her dog, Sophie. She’s also an aspiring hula hooping professional.
Camping in Pennsylvania with his family since before he can remember, Brian has always seen the woods as a source of comfort and inspiration. He is excited to share his passion for learning and the outdoors with students visiting Mountain Campus. Brian graduated from the University of Richmond and has since gained experience as both a conventional and experiential educator. A Wilderness First Responder and NOLS alum, Brian led backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail the past two summers. He looks forward to helping students gain self-knowledge, build community, and explore nature at MC.
This is Matt’s first season with Mountain Campus but he has been in the woods for most of his life. As an accomplished Eagle Scout, Matt is dedicated to teaching youth about how fun the outdoors can be and environmental stewardship. He is currently majoring in Recreation Leadership at Ferrum College with an expected graduation in May 2012. His favorite ice cream is Ben & Jerry’s Chunky-Monkey.
