Los Angeles - Updates

The California Field Office now has a full time, permanent representative of C2E2 for the West Coast. Her name is Jacqueline Duvivier Castillo and she is based in Los Angeles. She has been there since August 1, 2001 and will serve as a liaison for the West Coast affiliates as well as supporting any and all NCLR educational endeavors. Since her arrival the LA office has made contact with more than a dozen groups wishing to establish charter schools to service the great demands of the Latino community. Dialogue has also begun with the different school districts, support organizations and educational foundations that could contribute, in partnership with NCLR, to making educational reform in California a reality. Much effort has also been dedicated to preparing for the September Professional Development Institute, which will be held in Pasadena, CA.


San Antonio - Updates

The office of the Texas Education Coordinator was started in September. A site visit to the new George I. Sanchez School in San Antonio was made, as well as a site visit to a potential new affiliate, the First Mexican Baptist Church, also in San Antonio. Contact with current trainers and consultants continue while establishing new contacts with local and regional education experts. Work has begun in conjunction with ORAL in DC on collaborating with NALEO to develop the agenda for the southwest regional action conference on strengthening the Hispanic family, which will take place in San Antonio January 18-20, 2002.
